AFCB v Notts County @ DC. Monday 21st December 2009.

Oh my! Last Saturday was one of those days where you just want to bury your head in the sand and pretend that football doesn’t exist for a few days! We weren’t merely unlucky we were slaughtered… I am not going to get into the slagging players off, I don’t agree with it and lets face it doing so doesn’t change the fact that we failed to turn up on the day and got hammered well and truly in the process does it? The boys themselves know performances like that are far from acceptable and it’s up to them to either throw away all of their amazing achievements this season so far by turning out more “performances” of the same and watching us fade away like wannabes or to take a long hard look at themselves, remind themselves of what they are really capable of, pull their socks up, hold their heads up high and go out there and kick Nottsorich County off the park and inflict on them what we had inflicted on us last week… I will however go as far as to say I am very disappointed with all of them bar the loanee keeper. 1 (2 if your memory is better than mine! ) truly awful performance(s) does not break a season but we need to pull together on Monday, we fans need to give them our unconditional support and backing and they need to give us the performance of their lives… 90 mins of “embargo who gives a feck, we’re AFC Bournemouth and we’re going up” has a lovely ring to it for the sky cameras, don’t you think… UTCIAD

Our Opponents:

Well the Sven media circus just rolls on and on doesn’t it, although we seem to have reached the part where the clowns are the main attraction. (No Morewhinny that wasn’t a cue for you to appear!) Off field shenanigans dominate the news as they have gone virtually overnight from players earning an obscene £40k/week to being Nottsorich County. It is very hard not to point and laugh at them right now, I tried not to but failed!! The worst part is I can’t get treatment for my aching ribs because Steve Hard’s room is always full The audible sigh of relief from the pundits that Sven is staying put was quite frankly pathetic, I gather the FL show was going to cancel it’s league 2 coverage without Sven to fawn over, god forbid they would have had to actually talk about the other 23 teams in the division including those in the top 3!!!! So to all the genuine County fans out there my apologies for pointing and laughing, I do actually feel for you having to live this nightmare but to those just there as part of the media circus “where’s your money gone, where’s your money gone?”

Player to watch: Lee Hughes

Nope I am not going to give him a glowing resume or mention the fact that it takes being some real pathetic scum to get behind the wheel of a car drunk, cause an accident and run away and hide long enough for the alcohol to leave your system before fronting up to the police because that would merely be saying something we already know. What I will however say is let’s not be sheep, lets not do what is almost expected of opposition fans and abuse him for 90 mins – why not? Well simply because he thrives on it, the more abuse we give him the better he’s likely to play as he showed a few weeks back. Instead lets give him the silent treatment, every time he has the ball go totally silent. Do you know how intimidating and eerie it is going from a ground full of noise to total silence is? Very unsettling! If you can’t however stay silent “Sold in the window, You're getting sold in the window” is much more fun than plain old booing and all-to-predictable shouts of murderer Actually I like Stu’s suggestion – total silence while holding a picture up of the man he killed would be a dignified way of making the point that he should not be in playing professional football, he’s certainly not someone I want as a role model for my kids, I have higher standards than that.

Cherries News:

Marv is suspended for 3 games, something we need like a hole in the head right now but in Marv’s defence he was not malicious just late and I believe a 1 match ban would have been more appropriate to be honest but hey ho.

Scotty is heading back to at least being fit enough to hobble to the bench to keep it warm! I anticipate he will resume bench warming duties before the year is out. The awesome news is that next month we stand to get a new player despite the embargo, some of you may remember him from last season, his name – Shaun Cooper! WooT WooT!! Yep it looks like we get Coops back next month and boy do we need him right now! Moles we are still awaiting the boot thingmy removal day for an update on him. Joe P managed a subs appearance last week despite his dodgy groin and Sammy again hobbled on despite not being fully fit yet. Liam is still struggling with his groin but keeps trying bless him, Fletch’s knees remain as reliable as my car (and no it’s not true that I am on 1st name terms with all of the local RAC patrols honestly *whistles innocently*). Shwan remains a concern and we may or may not end up with Stech back for another game, assuming of course he can face the trauma of another week here. You have to feel sorry for the guy, he came along to help us out, gets 5 superb strikes hammered past him yet emerges as the only player to have earned his wages – go figure! Anton also remains a doubt with his bad back. Steve Hard is thoroughly exhausted and wants them to all get out of his treatment room and leave him in peace – he is certainly earning his wages this season. Hmmm just a thought has anyone had a look at his contract – is he on a commission basis – you know paid per player injured?? If so get it changed someone and give the man a wage so we have all our players back!!

As is the norm these days the starting 11 will pick themselves – those that hobble in first get on the pitch, those crawling in after make the bench! 3 definitely out (Coops, Moles, Marv); 3 virtually definitely out (Scotty, Shwan, Anton); 5 walking wounded and able to hobble enough to feature (Joe P, Sammy, Fletch, Ryan, Liam) and a massive 8 players fit enough to start without too much concern – what luxuries we have as AFCB fans!

Cherries Charity:

This is the last home game to lend our support to the wonderful foodbank appeal. Just think if each and every one of us bought along just 1 tin of food or pack of rice/pasta each how much food we would amass. A very small thing to the majority of us that would make a huge difference to those in desolate circumstances right now. I do hope sky TV pick up on it, we footie fans come in for a rough ride at times in the media, lets show the world what brilliant and caring fans we are, willing to help those less fortunate than ourselves.

Head to Head:

Over the years we have met County a total of 57 times. The results are Bournemouth wins: 25, Draws: 11 and County win: 21.

Considers sticking head back in the sand rather than mentioning they beat us 2-1 in the FA cup 4 weeks ago! Awful game that was with a flooded pitch and our academy/youth goalie in goal and the awful Roger East as referee. *shudder*

We met them twice in the league last season – a 1-0 defeat at home and a 1-1 draw away from home. Not much of a surprise to see Chicken is the only player to have scored against them in the past 2 seasons!

Ref watch:

The ref for the game is Mr Gavin Ward from Surry, with Brendan Malone (Wiltshire) and Tom Mason (Kent) acting as his assistants. The Fourth Official is the brilliant James Linington from The Isle of Wight.

That just goes to show how messed up the FL are – the top National Group ref is stuck as a 4th official – that is just so wrong on every level… Seriously James Linington is the only National group ref on the bmb lurve list and we get him as a flipping 4th official and the requisite idiot in charge of the game instead. Bmb is not a happy bunny! I guess I shouldn’t complain in 1 way because I asked the god of football to let us have JJ for this game and we have, just not where I wanted him!

According to ref world.com: Twenty eight year old Gavin is just completing his first season as a National List referee, after five seasons as a National List, SG and FIFA assistant referee. He started refereeing at the age of thirteen in Kent and progressed through the Kent and Isthmian Leagues. Has officiated at the FA Trophy Final and FL Championship Play Off Final, and for the 2007 Carling Cup Final was the first match official to be appointed as ‘ reserve assistant ‘ in a major domestic Cup Final. However it’s very out of date as this is now his 3rd season as a NG ref!!

During his first season in 2007/2008 we met him once during our 2-0 home victory over Yeovil. Daniel scored and Chicken got booked along with a Yeovil player. His stats for that season were 27 games, 77 yellows and 9 reds (3.19 cards/game average). Last season we met up with him twice, the 3-3 away draw at Luton when he only booked a Luton player and our 1-0 defeat at home to Brentford where he killed a tree booking Bean and sending off Powell for Brentford and Fletch, Goulding, Wiggins and Danny for us He ended that season with 30 games, 81 bookings and 3 red (a better 2.8 card/game average). This season so far he has amassed a whopping 58 yellow and 3 red in just 14 games (a huge 4.36 cards/game average). 9 yellows in the Southend Gillingham game, 7 in the Brighton Charlton game and 7 yellow 1 red in the Ipswich v Forest game!

Lets hope someone at the FL with some Christmas cheer in them swaps the very unimpressive Mr Ward and JJ round before Monday!! Come on guys it’s my birthday – be nice – please…

Match Prediction:

The bookies have County as 7/4 to win, 23/10 for a draw and 6/4 for an AFCB win.

Next fixture:

Saturday 26th December v Cheltenham Town away in the league. Kick off 3pm. *This match is all ticket*

Just a reminder that the JC’s party is this afternoon – the 0-9’s from 5pm – 6.30 and the 9-16’s from 6.30pm to – 8pm.

Also don’t forget the Carol service at the club on Sunday at 3pm.

My final word today is just to say a very merry Christmas to all Cherries everywhere on behalf of both Stu and myself and thank you for continuing to support court offside. bmb
