Bury Preview
AFCB v Bury @ Dean Court. 16.01.10
Ok I’m here with this weeks preview by popular demand – well ok zzzzzz threatening to hold the coffee he owes me to ransom until a preview is done was what swung it! Well either that or the vision of MightyReds suffering severe withdrawal symptoms and keeping poor Mrs MR up all night as he suffered the night terrors! I have therefore caved into peer pressure and done a quick preview whilst grumbling that admitting to a huge coffee addiction was a bad move and leaves me open to bribery!!
It seems forever ago that we last played a game – 2 long weeks with no footie but plenty of snow, ice and burst water pipes! *sighs and wrings the water out of my socks again* Our last run out saw us lose to Northampton 2-0 meaning they have done a treble over us this year and are obviously a bogey team for us big time! That’s all I have to say about that game, I get grumpy when we lose and am firmly in a “don’t want to talk about it” frame of mind – LOL
In other news the January transfer window for us sees a certain M.Bargo signed until the end of the season at least. Yep thanks for that Morewhinney – hurry up and retire you useless oaf. Level playing field my slightly smaller than last week’s butt
I guess the plus side is that we’re not likely to sell off any of the boys for 10p and an out of date mars bar like many previous boards have done! It will take a pretty special offer coming in to be accepted as decimating our already depleted squad any further would be suicidal. So to any agents reading this shall we start the bidding for Brett at say £1mill… Bargain for that price honest guv
The weather has hindered training and the bad news there is that it has caused poor Coops to fall behind his schedule towards his eventual return. He must be going insane poor guy but at least we know he is getting there. Hang in there Coops every min that goes past is 1 min nearer us seeing you back… I doubt the weather has helped Moles any in his last ditch attempt to avoid an op on his foot and sorry Moles but as much as I love ya you need to start focusing on being back pre-season and just forget this season ever existed. Funny how happy it makes me that the long termers list is down to just 2 players. The other 8/9/10 who have been reporting to Steve Hard before Eddie and Jace will no doubt have enjoyed the chance of a bit of a rest and fingers crossed the time has helped some of those stubborn niggles heal up.
It was good to see the feature on sky sports about Adam Murry giving the boys boxing training to keep them fit, although he looked to be thoroughly enjoying giving the boys a whack!! Yep Mr M that crack to poor Al’s head was noted and filed away for future use – be warned! Wally looked quite impressive I have to say but sorry Brett you hit like a girl!! At least we can see why the boys are so disciplined this year, if they step out of line they obviously get sent down to Adam’s office for a bit of good old fashioned discipline
Managed to have a chat with James, our groundsman, today. He said they had succeeded in getting the water off the pitch earlier and that it was very soft at the moment. He added that yesterday the ice was still about 1” below the surface but when he came in this morning it was about 2” below. We had another check while I was there and it has dropped to about 4” below now so all good so far. James is concerned that if we have a heavy downpour between now and kick off there will be a bit of a struggle to get it drained so some of us are on standby to get there to help him out with draining if needs be. He’s managed to keep it quite smooth on the surface despite the large number of muddy patches main stand side but looking at it, it is likely to cut up quite badly tomorrow in places. You can see the damage already done by the covers and to be honest James has reached the “I wish it was May” stage so he can really work on getting it back to the high standard it normally is.
Our Opponents:
Bury sit comfortably in 8th spot on 36 points. Goal difference keeping them out of the play off spots at present. In their last outing they drew 1-1 with Grimsby away from home. Ryan Lowe converting a 90th min penalty to give them a share of the spoils.
Player to watch: Ryan Lowe
Ryan Lowe began his career with local non league side Burscough before Shrewsbury Town snapped him up in July 2000.Following a five year spell at the Gay Meadow and 193 games which brought an impressive haul of 37 goals, he moved onto Chester City where he spent the next 18 months. 42 appearances and another 17 goals brought another move further up the league ladder and Crewe Alexandra.Seventeen goals in over 50 appearances saw him move to Stockport County on loan but a four game spell at Edgeley Park without any goals saw Ryan move back to Chester City on a free transfer in July 2008. Ryan finished last season as Chester's leading goal scorer with 18 goals and the player of the season award despite the club being relegated out of the football league.Following his release from the Deva Stadium, Ryan moved to Gigg Lane during the summer and signed a two year deal to stay with the Shakers.
Head to Head:
Over the years we have met Bury a total of 39 times. The results are Bournemouth wins: 19, Draws: 8 and Bury win: 12.

AFC Bournemouth v Bury
G K HEGLEY
W Bull and L M Collins
Fourth Official S Creighton
GRANT HEGLEY: Grant started refereeing in Hertfordshire when he was fifteen years of age, and was promoted to the National List of assistant referees in 1992, and The National List of Referees in 2001. Has represented the PGMO at The Dallas Cup and was an assistant referee for the 1999 FL Trophy Final at Wembley. He is employed within the legal profession.
Now you might want to sit for this next bit! He's one of the refs I actually like.
He has ref'd us once this season at Millwall away and had an awful game. He was a right homer on the night and peed me off because I had been nice about him before the game!! Hoping we see the decent ref he can be this week.
The linos William Bull was lino v Dag and Red. He's ok normally. Lee Collins is a decent lino, actually probably one of the best in the NG, he was also lino for the home JPT tie v Yeovil and again for the home game v Grimsby. Steve Creighton, the 4th official was lino in the Rotherham game.
All in all a pretty decent set of officials on paper at least
Match Prediction:
The bookies have Bury as 12/5 to win, 12/5 for a draw and 11/10 for an AFCB win. One of these days you boys will explain to me exactly what that all means!!
Stats courtesy of Bet365
Next fixture:
Saturday 23rd Jan v Aldershot @ The recreation ground in the league. Kick off 3pm.
Footnote:
Apologies for the short non standard preview but I have had a bad week! Normal long and very waffly service shall resume next week.
Congrats to zzzzzz and the now Mrs zzzzzz on their holiday nuptials. Glad the big day went well and good luck for the future. I have a feeling Mrs zzzzzz will need it
