Hi Guys, I wonder if you can help. I have an old pre World War 1 Postcard of what looks like a Bournemouth player. Does anyone know who it might be? It would be nice to put a name to him.

Hope this link works. I'm not very good at this.
Thanks Guys,

looking through my books the closest I could suggest is a chap called Richardson top picture page 17 from "Cherries First Hundred Years" by Kevin Nash. That dates it to the 1920's but not specific.
Anything written on the back of the photo? I noticed Foxes studio on the card that could help date it more, if you can find a Kelley's directory of Bournemouth work back from 1934 (the last year we wore red and white stripes) to when Foxes photography studio is last entered and you will get a rough date but as for the name I am just clutching at straws from a grainy photo in a book.
From another book George Richardson half back signed for £250 from Sheffield Utd 06/1924 played 9 scored 0 went to Boston Utd 06/1925 free.
And Jack Richardson defender from Reading in 08/1934 played 8 scored 0 went to Folkstone 05/1935 free.

Thanks for that. Good info. The back of the postcard says " To Roy (or Ray), with fondest love, From Sammy. Not sure if there are any clues there? The card is unposted.

Now that is interesting because according to my records we had 3 Sams who played for us in the days of Red and white stripes pre 1934 1 who is called
Sammy. That is Sammy Beswick Centre Forward signed 12/1929 from Tranmere played 54 scored 11 then went to Poole Town 11/1933.
The other two who are just plain Sams are
Sam Dudley 6/28 from Preston NE played 2 went to Coleraine 5/29 outside left
Sam Brown 6/29 from Third Lanark played 58 went to Brighton 6/31 full back
I think Beswick could be your man, I was wondering how you came by the photo?
cheers
Mike
Sammy Beswick was the first B'mth player to win an international call up being an amateur he was selected in 1930
for an England amateur 11 good enough reason to have your photo taken?

Hi Mike, do you have a photo of Sammy to compare? I got the postcard from a dealer on Ebay which was hidden in a lot of other stuff. It was the fact it was an unknown player that caught my attention. Cheers, Terry

What I have is a small photo in a book of the team circa 1930 if when Sammy was in the squad the book is Cherries First Hundred Years page 19.
the chap in question is second in moving from the left to the right on the back row I will try and copy and post it here, bit tricky as I only have a cheep digital camera to do that. The book often is on ebay for between £7-12 there is one on now
good read as well.Link>>>

Interestingly the squad photo has the legendary Ronnie Eyre all time top scorer 203 in 302 between 1924-1932.
That Photo as I remember was amongst other old photos was all around the old Dean Court Supporters Club now demolished. Dont know what happened to them somebody may enlighten.
For my sins I have not been to the new supporters club as I now live up the West of Dorset and only get up to watch a few times a year.
Any how I will see what I can do re a photo.

Light coloured hair, same type of face and smile, that will do me fine Mike. Sammy Beswick it is. What a great piece of detective work by you. Thanks very much. Terry
